Or you give quick hotkeys to the inside of the Belts. Thats how every other interface works and what people probably also expect. Items could be "right" clickable inside the inventory, for dropping or contexual commands, why can't i switch off my welder inside the belt or do other simple commands. Same for the components that need carrying arround because they dont fit into a container. You wouldn't need to "activate" a hand, it's always obvious where a tool is meant to go. Tools are automatically swapped with whatever tool is in the main hand.

What this would allow is that you can have contexual commands. (maybe for VR but that's the only thing i could think of) Does the added complexity from 2 inventory slots in the Suit and in the Back and in the Uniform add something gameplay wise ?Īnother Question i have is wether you wouldn't want to assign one hand to Tools / Appliances and another for components like Ironsheets etc. I think stationeers enjoyable parts are in the complexity of the systems not wether it successfully simulates 2 hands. Think really critical wether this really expans the gaming experience. It's really cumbersome to drop something from hand, then open Container 1, switch it in to the hand, open Container 2, switch it into Container 2, then pick up dropped item. If i'm informed correctly these dont change to much with the exception of the belt when you exchange it with the mining belt.Ĭonsolidate the Inventory into one screen (marking which spot belongs to what) either the Inventory is open or it's not. The game currently features different inventories in 5 different slots. I'm just not sure it adds gameplay to much on top, yes you can get used to it, but that doesn't mean it's good in what it tries to do. I professionally design Interface Systems and controls and i have to say the system you have going here is not very accessible for the lack of mirroring of other known systems or real life interactions. Player experience should be more important than the perceptions of people who are probably never going to play the game either way. I recall reading that the development team did not want the game being called "minecraft in space" and that was one reason behind the lack of mouse support for the inventory but let's be real, people still compare it to minecraft anyway. What if you could simply drag and drop data cards into the e-reader? What if you could drag your mining belt over your tool belt and instantly swap them? Mouse support would not only be familiar to new players, but could streamline some of the more tedious aspects of inventory management for current players as well. I think it would improve usability across the board and make the game more accessible to new players who might ease into the game better with a friendlier (and more familiar) control scheme, as well as existing players who simply prefer direct mouse control. Yes, in theory the current control scheme has the *potential* to be more effecient once the player can fully master it, but that can take an extremely long time and many people are turned off before that ever happens.įurthermore, there are simply advantages to the direct nature of mouse control that you can't get with strictly keyboard based inventory, and vice-versa as well. I think we all know this is about accessibility.
